Monica is a financial regulatory and investment management partner at Dechert LLP. She also serves as a Board member of Women in ETFs. Monica was named a ‘Rising Star’ by Derivatives Intelligence for her work in the exchange trade funds industry and is noted as a ‘Next Generation Lawyer’ in the Legal 500 Financial Services (Non-Contentious Regulatory) list for 2017.
Monica has participated and led a number of industry thought-leadership initiatives, including the HM Treasury working group creating the Innovative Finance ISA for investment into peer-to-peer loans. In conjunction with the UK’s Investment Association, Monica led collaborative efforts in the UK and US to draft industry guidance on the MiFID II inducement and research rules and their practical implementation with respect to cross border delegation arrangements.
Ms Gogna has significant experience advising clients on UK and European regulatory issues affecting the provision of cross-border investment services. Monica also regularly advises on the key regulatory issues regarding the structuring of investment products including alternative investment funds, undertakings for collective investment in transferable securities (UCITS), derivatives and retail structured products. She also counsels clients on the regulatory issues surrounding the acquisition, restructuring and disposal of financial services businesses in the UK and Europe
Ms. Gogna is well known in the European exchanged traded fund market, having worked on a number of key projects, including the establishment, authorisation and simultaneous listing of European ETFs in multiple jurisdictions; the development of a cross-border distribution platform for ETFs and a re-organisation of authorised participant platforms for a global asset manager. She also works with a number of FinTech firms, asset managers and banks seeking advice on the new wave of regulation regarding roboadvice, the use of blockchain and crypocurrencies.
Ms. Gogna regularly writes a blog Monica Gogna on Asset Management published by the Practical Law Company (subscription service) – www.practicallaw.com. She has also recently been appointed as a contributing editor to Lexis Nexis PSL.
Ms Gogna is currently also Ambassador for The Diversity Project and sits on the Dechert Global Diversity Committee.
Prior to joining Dechert, Ms. Gogna began her career as a business analyst at JP Morgan Asset Management, moving onto become a senior associate at Clifford Chance. She most recently served as a partner in the investment management and financial services regulation group at Ropes & Gray.
